The Sri Lanka - Poland Business Council
The
visit of the Polish President Aleksander Kwasnieski in March
1999 to Colombo demonstrated the importance the two countries
placed on diplomatic and economic ties. The Memorandum of
Understanding signed on that occasion between the Polish
Chamber of Commerce and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce aimed
at consolidating this relationship by the formation of a
Business Council with the primary objective of promoting
trade and investment between the two countries.
The Sri Lanka -Poland Business
Council was thus inaugurated on 3 rd September 1999 with
the participation of the Deputy Minister of Economy of Poland
and the Honorary Consul General for Poland in Sri Lanka
Deshamanya Ken Balendra and members of the Ceylon Chamber
of Commerce.
The Sri Lanka - Poland
Business Council is comprised of leading business Organizations
from the Private sector having business links with Poland
or seeking to develop trade relations with Poland. Furthermore,
many important Ministries and Government Organizations involved
in trade and investment promotion activities are also represented
on the Council. In the short span of eight years, the Sri
Lanka - Poland Business Council has made remarkable progress
as it plays a catalytic role in facilitating commercial
relations between Sri Lankan and Polish Companies.
